03 / Building portfolios
A clear record for every building.
A plan suited to its use.
Organize what’s known, what’s missing and who is responsible before ordering devices or commissioning work.
Prepare your building register
For your own records, list each building’s location and use, existing reports, testing dates and locations, mitigation equipment, access contact and the person who can authorize work.
Questions for a planning meeting
Which buildings and spaces are included?
Ask a qualified professional which measurement protocol fits the building’s use and which existing reports are suitable for that purpose.
Who owns the process?
Agree who manages the timetable, access, occupant communications and decisions after results are available.
How will completion be checked?
Clarify the written scope, fees, corrective work and verification records. Ask which jurisdiction-specific obligations need separate review.
Start with scope
The Canadian guideline includes homes and certain public buildings and workplaces, with stated exclusions. It does not establish every property’s legal obligations.
