A clear plan, from test to follow-up.

Keep the useful details together. Use this checklist alongside your device instructions and professional advice.

Common questions

Can I use a neighbour’s result?

No. It does not measure your home. Test your own home rather than assuming the same result applies.

Is a reading from this morning enough?

A current reading is not a long-term average. Health Canada recommends at least three months for a home test; check your monitor’s display and instructions.

Where should I put the detector?

Choose the lowest lived-in level. Follow the device instructions and Health Canada’s placement guidance, including avoiding kitchens, bathrooms, windows, vents and heat sources.

Is a result below 200 risk-free?

No. The Canadian guideline is an action reference, not a guarantee of zero risk. You can discuss further reduction with a qualified professional.

Should I choose the cheapest mitigation quote?

Compare what each quote includes: system design, installation, electrical work, testing, exclusions, warranty and follow-up. Confirm the named installer’s current mitigation certification.

What if I rent?

Keep your report and discuss it with the person responsible for the property. Who must authorize or pay for work depends on the situation and jurisdiction; this guide does not determine legal duties.
